The more accessible edition of the Battle Royale series. Up to 64 teams compete over two days. Qualification on the Saturday, final on the Sunday. Open to gymnasts aged 13 to 17. Every registration includes a ticket to the Sunday Battle Royale finals.

Format

An elimination format across two days. A team must compete on the Saturday to reach the Sunday final.

Both days: A team must compete on the Saturday to reach the Sunday final. The final runs on the Battle Royale floor.
Points: Team points reset at the start of the final round. Every routine counts towards the team score.

Eligibility

Who can enter a Mini Royale team.

Age: 13 to 17 years old.
Level: Xcel Platinum, USAG. Equivalent to Development Program (JO) levels 5 to 7.
Team size: 5 to 8 gymnasts per team.
Discipline: Women's artistic only.

Bring the gymnasts you have

Every gymnast competes under Xcel Platinum rules at Mini Royale, whatever level she trains at. A gymnast who competes Gold, Diamond or Sapphire can still come and score for your team, and so can a Development Program or JO gymnast. Battle Royale is an independent competition, so an existing registration does not block an entry. High performance and senior gymnasts are welcome too. Modify the routine to meet the Xcel Platinum requirements.

Scoring

Each routine is ranked against the whole field on that apparatus. First place scores 100, last place scores 0, and every other place lands evenly between. The team's score is the sum of its routine points.

Judged at: Xcel Platinum, under the USAG Xcel Code of Points.
Team only: Team scoring only. There is no all-around and there are no individual apparatus finals.

A prize pool of $10,000 per event, paid to the team.

Prize money is awarded to the team. Each team names a captain who supplies one payment address, and we pay within 30 days. Swag bags go to the top twelve teams.

Where to register: Teams register on Gym Art Meets. A free account, no prior Gym Art account needed. On the platform your club name is your team name.
Insurance: Canadian athletes are covered by the event's own insurance. International athletes must carry travel insurance that covers sports incidents.

How many nights: The minimum stay is two nights. The real trip for a team competing both days is three nights: Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Deadline: The hotel booking deadline matches the registration deadline. Rates are before HST.

JO to Xcel Platinum

Mini Royale is competed under Xcel Platinum rules. This guide helps you place a gymnast who trains in the Development Program, or on another track.

Platinum is the fourth of the six Xcel divisions. Coaches generally treat it as Development Program levels 6 and 7.

Xcel Platinum is optional style. A gymnast picks the skills in her routine within the composition rules, so the routine is flexible. That is why Platinum and a Development Program level are not matched skill for skill. The tables below line Platinum up against Levels 6 and 7 so you can see where your gymnast lands.

The two women’s competitive pathways

The Development Program
Previously known as the Junior Olympic program, or JO. Levels 1 to 5 are fixed compulsory routines. Levels 6 to 10 are optional routines built from required elements.
Xcel
A separate track, built to be open to a wider group of gymnasts. It uses named divisions rather than numbers, and it runs on fewer training hours and fewer meets.

The official USA Gymnastics score sheets carry the full skill charts, the deductions and the edge cases. Check a routine against those before you compete it.

Before you enter

A gymnast who competes Gold, Diamond or Sapphire can still enter Mini Royale and score for her team. Every gymnast competes under Xcel Platinum rules at this meet, whatever division she trains at.
Xcel and the Development Program are separate tracks. A gymnast does not have to pass through JO to reach Xcel Platinum. A move between the two programs is possible, but it matches skills rather than transferring a level directly.
USA Gymnastics spells it “Xcel”, never “Excel”. The divisions are Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Sapphire.
These requirements reflect the 2022 to 2028 Xcel quad and the current Development Program optional rules. Confirm against the current official USA Gymnastics rules and score sheets before you prepare a routine.
An Xcel Platinum start value reaches 10.0 when the composition and value-part requirements are met. Development Program Levels 6 and 7 use a comparable value-part structure with different minimums.
